The combination would “increase the opportunities for both companies in the high-growth e-commerce/e-fulfillment areas,” according to a press release. The emerging sector is a key focus for GXO, which became the world's second largest contract logistics company last summer when it split from XPO Logistics.

Clipper is an omnichannel retail logistics provider with two-thirds of its revenue related to e-commerce and returns. The company has two divisions: value-added logistics, including e-fulfilment, reverse logistics and other logistics services; and a commercial vehicle sales and service segment.

“Our two companies have very complementary service offerings, customer portfolios and presence in the UK and Europe, and we are natural partners with a very strong cultural fit,” Malcolm Wilson, CEO of GXO, told FreightWaves in a statement.

Clipper Logistics also has a Dutch branch, in Venray.
